Dean's Job Description

The Dean is the Chief Executive Officer for his or her school or area.  He or she is responsible for all aspects of operation of the unit and serves as the primary spokesperson for the unit.  The Dean also serves as a member of the Provost's administrative team.  Primary duties for all Deans include the following plus other duties as assigned.

  • Administrative Relationships

  • Advise Provost

  • Serve as a member of the Deans’ Council

  • Advise the provost and president on college-wide matters as requested

  • Coordinate with appropriate areas within the college to insure high quality instruction, programming, and advising

  • Communicate issues and recommendations to appropriate college personnel

  • Serve on Academic Petitions Committee

  • Develops appropriate communication vehicles including websites

  • Secure space and other needed resources through consultation with the Provost and other appropriate offices

 Budgets and Resources 

  • Manage, distribute, and monitor area resources

  • Insure compliance with college and state policies

  • Develop budget requests, allocate resources, and control expenditures from approved budgets

Leadership 

  • Foster excellence and instruction and programming

  • Represent area of responsibility to appropriate community and professional organizations

  • Represent LCSC as assigned

 Program Development and Management 

  • Approve and foster new programming

  • Implement measures of program effectiveness

  • Monitor professional requirements for graduates

  • Coordinate and oversee grant development and administration activities

  • Monitor assessment of programs through program review process; specialized accreditations; and surveys of graduates and employers

 Personnel 

  • Define job responsibilities, assign duties, and supervise non-faculty personnel

  • Foster faculty and staff professional growth

  • Evaluate faculty and staff  and make appropriate recommendations regarding promotion, tenure, and retention

 Policy Administration

  • Chief executive officer in the implementation of institutional policies and plans

  • Implements academic policies and procedures

  • Implements appropriate institutional and SBOE policies and procedures

  • Maintains required records and prepares required reports

  • Interdisciplinary programs

  • General Education

  • Chair petitions committee

Dean, Professional-Technical Programs

  • Representative to TCLC

  • Director of WFT

  • Coordinator of Tech Prep

Dean, Community Programs 

  • Coordinate all non-credit programming to insure no duplication and ease of access for students

  • Insure quality of alternative programming

  • Summer school coordination

Dean, Student Services
