Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS): or applicants to the Baccalaureate (Basic BSN) and Practical Nursing (AAS-PN) Programs

Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET): For Applicants to the Radiography Program (RS)


What is the TEAS/HOBET and how will the test scores be used?

The intent of this standardized exam is to assess academic skills and knowledge already learned in Reading, Mathematics, Science and EnglishThis is a timed, computerized test.  Testing time is approximately 3.5 hours overall, with a set time limit for each section of the test.  The computer will advance to the next section if you exceed the time limit.

The TEAS test results are required for application to both the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the Practical Nurse (PN) programs.

The HOBET test results are required for application to the Radiographic Science (RS) program.

The TEAS/HOBET composite score is one of several factors considered determining admission to these programs.

You CANNOT use a calculator for the TEAS/HOBET.

When must I take the TEAS/HOBET?

BSN and PN Applicants:

This TEAS test must be taken prior or during the BSN/PN application window.  See the application for the applicable date.

RS Applicants:

This HOBET test must be taken prior or during the RS application window.  See the application for the applicable date.

Can I retake the TEAS/HOBET?

You may take the TEAS/HOBET test only once in an application cycle.  Retakes are not permitted.  If you have taken the TEAS/HOBET previously, you may elect to use your prior test results.  Or, you may retake the test the current year prior to the application deadline.  You must notify us on your application that you are choosing to use prior results; otherwise the most current test results will be used.

Can I submit TEAS/HOBET test results even if I take the test at a different college or university?

Yes, you may submit TEAS/HOBET test results taken at another college or university.  You must request the college or university to send the official results directly to us.

How do I take the test on-campus (Lewiston only) at LCSC?

Testing for the TEAS/HOBET will take place at the LCSC Professional Technical Education Center (PTEC).  The website is: (www.lcsc.edu/ptec).

SEATING IS LIMITED on each test day.  You must contact the PTEC for a reservation: (208) 792-2331 or (866) 263-4968 at least one day prior to when you intend to take the test.  In advance of your test date, you must register and pay the test fee at the LCSC Cashier's window.  Administration Building (208) 792-2202.

The fee for on-campus testing for the TEAS/HOBET is approximately $40.00 per person per test.  This represents the cost of administration and testing materials including scoring.  This fee is non-refundable.  Your paid receipt and photo ID must be presented at the PTEC when you arrive to take the test.  Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to testing.

Suppose there is a problem with the computer?

The PTEC will notify ATI and work with their IT person to try and fix the computer problem.  If they cannot, they will notify NHS if there is a problem with the computer program, or if there are extenuating circumstances that interfere with testing.  The Division will determine any appropriate accommodation.

How do I take the test off-campus?

The cost for taking the test off-site (at a location other than the LCSC campus or the NICHE) is $40.00 and is non-refundable.  If you are interested in taking the test off-site, you must visit with Doris Swinford (208) 792-2331 - dlswinford@lcsc.edu regarding locating a distant site that has this test available.  The test must be taken with a copy of the results in your application file before the application deadline.  (Some sites that offer TEAS/HOBET in Idaho: College of Western Idaho, Northwest Nazarene, Apollo-although you might have a tough time getting them to proctor for you, College of Southern Idaho, Idaho State University, Eastern Idaho Technical College, North Idaho College; Boise State Univeristy and Bringham Young University might as well).

How do I study for the TEAS/HOBET?

TEAS: A study guide (Test of Essential Academic Skills: Pre-Test Study Manual) is available at the LCSC Library or for purchase at the LCSC bookstore, Amazon.com or from Assessment Technologies Institute.
