Rachel A. Jameton, Ph.D,
grew up in St.Louis, Missouri, where she developed a
love for libraries, the outdoors and science.
After earning a B.A. in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania under the tutelage of an inspiring organic chemist, Dr.
Phyllis Leber, Rachel spent two years teaching
chemistry in Niger, West Africa, as a member of the Peace Corps. She returned to the states to pursue her
doctorate at the University of Utah in the laboratories of Dr. Cynthia Burrows,
where she studied DNA damage mediated by manganese and enjoyed exploring the
wilds of Utah through backpacking, rafting and skiing. After teaching chemistry at The Evergreen
State College for two years, Rachel returned inland in 2003 and has been
teaching organic chemistry at Lewis-Clark State College ever since. In addition to teaching and writing, Rachel
enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoor opportunities in
the region.
