Matthew A. Johnston, Ph.D. was trained as an inorganic chemist.  He received his doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, in 2000 under the direction of Dr. William Evans.  He obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from Santa Clara University in 1996.  Matt has taught at all levels of the chemistry program and also teaches Introduction to Forensic Science.  Matt's research interests include chemical pedagogy, the bioinorganic chemistry of gold (III) compounds and mixed valence Au(I)/Au(III) compounds.  His personal interests include basketball, WoW, fantasy football and the Simpsons.
