Welcome to the LCSC Biology home page!
Our goal is to prepare well-rounded biologists who are competitive for graduate school, professional programs, and in the workforce. Most of our biology majors are interested in pre-health curricula, preparation for biomedical graduate programs, or environmental studies. All of our students take similar classes their first 2 years as biology majors and then diversify their course work based upon their interests and career plans. We offer classes in topics ranging from immunology, histopathology, and animal behavior to ornithology and field botany.
For students who are interested in professional programs, we have courses designed to provide the pre-requisites necessary for admittance into all major graduate programs medical programs, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy physical therapy and other health related fields. Our success rate for placement into professional programs and graduate school is very competitive, as high as 90% or greater in recent years.
Many of our majors enter the workforce after graduation rather than pursue additional studies. We have successfully educated field biologist/technician professionals in fields related to the overall management of natural ecosystems. Students are prepared for employment with government agencies such as State Fish and Game, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management.
We have dedicated faculty and low student-faculty ratios especially in our upper division courses. Grant funding has provided excellent laboratory equipment, on par with equipment that is typically only found at large research institutions. We are excited to be biologists and enjoy sharing our chosen career field with our students. Please stop by, introduce yourself, and say hello.
