Class Projects

A large  part of instruction in our Earth Science program takes place in the field. Our location in north-central Idaho offers a huge variety of nearby field projects. A couple of recent examples are shown below.

Class

GEOL309 Hydrogeology. Measuring stream discharge on Asotin Cr, WA during drought season in September. Another aspect of this project is estimating peak discharge during January 1997 flood using field evidence.

Class2

GEOL421 Structural Geology. Salmon River suture zone in the Salmon River Canyon, Idaho. Accreted Mesozoic oceanic crust on left,  Precambrian North American continental crust on right. The weekend exercise involves geologic mapping and structural analysis of rock assemblages across this important tectonic boundary.
