LCSC engineering students build wheelchair ramps for LC valley community as part of engineering classes.
As part of our Engineering Statics and Dynamics classes we apply what we are learning about forces on objects to building and designing wheelchair ramps in our community. During the year as we are learning these foundational engineering principles we practice with different designs. In the spring, working with community partner Interlink Volunteers, we pick a household, learn about their needs, and design a ramp specific to their home and lifestyle. After design approval, and in less than one day, we build it. You can see our work throughout the valley in the five ramps we’ve built so far. We call this “bringing learning to life – engineering style!”
