Mentors Needed

 

Food Bank

Front counter help is needed from 1p.m. - 4p.m once a week.  Help is also needed to  pick up daily donations from local stores, work in warehouse, and repackage food items.

 

Court Appointed Special Advocates

Speak up for abused, abandoned or neglected children and represent their best interests in court proceedings.  Students will investigate a child’s history, facilitate communication between concerned adults, advocate for services and placement and make recommendations to the court.  Pre-service training required.

 

Office Assistant

The Disability Action Center is looking for a few individuals to assist with office duties during the week.  Office is open Monday-Friday from 9-4; however, hours and days are flexible.

 

Jack O'Connor Hunter Heritage and Education Center

The Jack O’Connor Hunter Heritage and Education Center has an immediate need for students to serve at its location at Hells Gate State Park.  The center includes a small museum and classroom facilities and overlooks the Snake River.  Students are needed to open the center and staff the museum and education center.  Student educators will help develop adult and youth education on the ethics, responsibilities, benefits and history of the human hunting heritage.  Students are asked to work at least a 4-hour shift.  Shifts are available from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week.

 

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is looking for someone to help in their Lewiston office.  You’ll assist with general office projects and provide basic administrative support.  Various shifts are available Monday through Friday.

Habitat Store
Students will be involved with the daily operation of the store including sales, displaying merchandise, receiving and picking up donations, and general office duties.  Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Cancer Resource Center
The St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's Cancer Resource Center helps newly diagnosed cancer patients, survivors and family/community members with information about programs and services available in the area.  Students will be trained by American Cancer Society staff.   Training includes shadowing a trained volunteer for a few sessions.  Requires as six-month commitment.

Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program
Classroom and playground helpers are needed to work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.  You'll be reading to children, assisting with crafts, and helping at meal times.  Hours are available Tuesday through Friday.  Morning sessions run from 8 until 11:30 a.m. and afternoon classes are held from 12:30-4:30 p.m.  Hours are flexible and students are needed in Lewiston, Clarkston, Asotin and other communities in the area.    

Interlink Volunteers - Faith in Action
Interlink's mission to enable senior citizens and others to live independently in their own homes.  They do this by building wheelchair ramps, installing handrails and fixing stairs, doing yard work, providing minor home repair and light housekeeping.  They are also recruiting volunteers to provide "friendly visiting" to local seniors.

Lewiston Community Garden
Community Gardens are being developed in Modie Park to provide fresh produce for local food banks and the Senior Nutrition Program.  Space will also be available for individuals who wish to grow their own garden.  Help is needed for tilling, planting, weeding, fertilizing and harvesting.  Hours are flexible.

YWCA Help Line 
Volunteers are needed to staff the help line after business hours and on weekends.  Typical calls include crisis intervention and talk calls.  Best of all you can do it from the comfort of your own home.  Requires an initial 15-30 hours of training provided by the YWCA staff. 

YWCA After School Program
Tutors are needed to help children with homework and fun learning activities.  Various hours available Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.  This program is offered to kids who are past or present residents of the domestic violence or homeless shelter.

First Book-LCSC
Help provide free books to disadvantaged children in the area served by LCSC.  Students are needed to serve on the Campus Advisory Board, review and award book grants, publicize the program and plan fundraisers. 

Salvation Army Soup Kitchen
The Soup Kitchen provides free meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each week.  Students are needed to help prepare and serve meals and clean up.  Food prep shifts run from 3:30 until 5 p.m., serving shifts are from 5 until 6 p.m. and clean up runs from 5:30 until 6:30.

Textbook Readers and Graphic Designers

Lewis Clark Valley Literacy Council needs volunteers to record textbooks onto

tape. They also need 2-3 graphic art students to work with design and layout of materials for recruitment purposes.

Kinder College
Students are needed to perform a variety of duties including reading to kids, painting, playing with students and helping in the classroom.  Shifts vary and are available Monday through Friday.

Boys and Girls Club
Tutors needed to help with homework during Power Hour, Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Help is also needed with arts and crafts projects and manning the game room.

Animal Shelter
Help is needed to train and walk dogs, work during off-site adoption events, write articles for shelter newsletter and help with clerical duties.
