Kinesiology

KIN 352 - Youth Sports

Students apply coaching techniques when working with youth in flag football and soccer at schools and the Boys and Girls Clubs.

ED 316 - Physical Education and Health Methods for Elementary Children

Students teach motor skills to K-6 students whose schools do not have a regular physical education teacher.

KIN 434 - Exercise Prescription

Provide health and wellness assessments and design exercise programs and fitness activities.

KIN 492 - Balance and Mobility

Students will teach balance and mobility exercises to the elderly in various settings.

KIN 492 - Aging and Physical Activity

Students will work on recreational activities with the elderly.

KIN 494 - Kinesiology Internships for Non-Teaching Majors

Students work directly under supervisors in a variety of sport-related settings.

Psychology

PSY 405 - Adult Development

Working in pairs, will be working with 12 elders that have been identified by the Area Agency on Aging.

PSY 494 - Internship

Students will apply psychological principles and helping skills through a supervised internship at a local agency.

PSY 495 - Practicum

Students will apply psychological principles and helping skills through a supervised a local agency that targets chemical dependency treatment.

Social Work

SW 140 - Introduction to Social Work/Social Welfare

The focus of this course is to help social work and non-social work majors gain an understanding of the professional foundation of social work. Students will be introduced to the knowledge, skills and ethics involved in generalist social work practice. Students will explore the theoretical, political, social and economic contexts of social work practice. Attention is given to the many settings and roles in which social workers work with diverse client groups whom social workers serve. Volunteer service learning project is required.

Justice Studies

JS 492 - Community Policing

This class is an examination of the philosophy, tactics, problems, and solutions encountered when the community and police engage in the teamwork of community policing.  The course contains a service-learning component that combines community service with structured learning and reflection, connecting the needs of the community with coursework and our roles as citizens.

NU 332 - Practicum II: Transitions in Health

NU 472 - Practicum:  Nursing Management and Leadership

Requires 12 hours of service during the semester.

RE/SE 319 - Field Experience I

Students work with elementary students tutoring in reading and writing.

RE/SE 325 - Field Experience II

Students work one-on-one with elementary students tutoring in reading and writing skills.

ED 328 - Math Methods K-8

Students work with elementary students tutoring in math.

ED 426 - Professional Internship in Education I (K-8)

Students assist teachers in an elementary or middle school setting averaging 20 hours a week.

ED 429 - Professional Internship in Education II (K-8)

Students assist teachers in an elementary or middle school setting averaging 40 hours a week.

Business

AC 309 - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Students work jointly with the IRS to complete income tax returns for community members.

BUS 311 - Foundations of Management Theory

Students coordinate with Small Business Development Center to perform SWOT analyses for non-profit agencies and small businesses.

Engineering

ENGR 120 - Engineering Fundamental Analysis & Design

Working with Interlink, students design and build a wheelchair ramp for an area resident.

Dental Hygiene

Students provide preventative dental services to low-income children and their families.

Student Development

SD 110 - Learning Strategies

Students participate in learning activities by participating in service and reflection activities with a variety of community partners.
