Student Organization of Social Workers (SOSW) Lewis-Clark State College (Est. 1991)
L.C.S.C. Student Organization of Social Workers, seeks to provide the social work student with an additional opportunity for learning in such areas as leadership, organizational skills, policy, decision making, and provide a sense of community among students majoring in Social Work. Monthly general meetings for S.O.S.W. will be announced in the Social Work classes, posted on the Social Work bulletin boards, and posted to the S.O.S.W. website.
Constitution of the Student Organization of Social Workers (SOSW) Lewis-Clark State College.
Article One
Name
The name of this organization shall be: Lewis Clark State College Student Organization of Social Workers, also known as S.O.S.W.
Article Two
Purpose
The SOSW serves to provide the Social Work student community with an opportunity for additional growth and development during their college careers. The organization seeks to offer continual learning experience for students in the areas of leadership, and organizational skills development. The organization also exists to provide students with current information and knowledge regarding issues related to Social Work and the profession.
Article Three
Section 1: Student Association Membership
A. Any student at LCSC with a current enrollment in, and/or intent to complete the Social Work core is eligible to become a member in the SOSW and is entitled, upon determination of good standing, to voting privileges.
B. There will be nominal yearly dues required for membership in the SOSW.
C. SOSW shall not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, age, sex, national origin, or physical handicap.
D. LCSC students who have previously graduated after completion of the LCSC Social Work core are considered ex-officio, non-voting members of SOSW.
Article Four
Section 1: Officers
A. Elected officers must be regularly enrolled full-time students in the Social Work curriculum at LCSC and members of SOSW.
B. Duties of Elected Officers:
1. The function of the President shall be:
To preside over all meetings of the Delegate Assembly
To serve as chairman of the Board of Directors.
Shall appoint non-elected officers
To assist the President-elect in assuming his/her duties.
To call special or emergency meetings as needed.
To initiate and direct programs in guidelines of the organization's purpose and goals, and in consultation with the Board of Directors.
To represent the organization at faculty meetings and be responsible for one vote on faculty decisions.
2. The functions of the Vice-President shall be:
To assume the responsibilities of President at meeting of the Delegate Assembly in the President's absence.
To be an administrative assistant to the President.
To preside over removal of officers hearing.
3. The functions of the Secretary shall be:
To maintain a file of all records and reports of the organization, to be transferred to the succeeding secretary.
To be responsible for obtaining all reports and minutes of the Board of Directors.
To be responsible for administrative correspondence of the organization.
4. The functions of the Treasurer shall be:
To be responsible for the administration of all organization funds under the supervision of the President.
To provide an updated treasurer's report at each organizational meeting.
There must be two members and two alternate members signing checks for the organization. Those two members shall be the President and Treasurer. Alternate members shall be the Vice-President and Secretary. The Treasurer shall designate signer in case of absence.
5. The functions of the 2 Delegates-At-Large shall be:
To assist with the responsibilities of the administrative duties of the organization.
To represent the organization to the local chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
To represent the organization before the LCSC Senate to request funding.
6. The functions of the Representative-At-Large shall be:
To represent the organization to the faculty (this is a two-year elected position).
To assist with the responsibilities of the administrative duties of the organization.
Amendment I (May 10, 2001)
All Advisory Board and Faculty Representative positions shall be elected by a majority vote of the club members at the time the Executive Board is voted on. Candidates for these positions will be recommended by the Nominating Committee after consultation with the appropriate Social Work Advisor. In addition, no member of the Executive Board shall be eligible to hold any Representative position; such situation may create a potential conflict of interest.
