WHAT IS THE PEER MENTORING PROGRAM?
The program is a pilot program that allows trained students the opportunity to interact one-on-one with at risk students in a setting other than the traditional classroom or office environment.

WHAT IS A MENTOR/WHY BE A MENTOR?
A mentor is someone who provides guidance, friendship, and support and serves as a role model to students. Your personal attention, help, advice, information and encouragement will help students to succeed academically.

WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PEER MENTOR?
A peer mentor is required to have been enrolled at least one semester at LCSC previous to becoming a mentor. They must have time available to dedicate to their mentees and attend trainings. They must have knowledge of the campus and community resources and activities.

WHERE DO I GET AN APPLICATION?

HOW WILL I KNOW WHO MY MENTEE ARE?
You will receive a packet with your mentees’ name and contact information within a few weeks of the beginning of the semester.

HOW MANY MENTEES ARE ASSIGNED TO EACH MENTOR?
Each mentor will be assigned 3-5 mentees per semester.

HOW DO I CONTACT MY MENTEE?
Your mentee will be contacting you within the first few weeks of the semester through your LCmail account. You may discuss after that how you wish to communicate.

WHAT DO I TALK TO MY MENTEE ABOUT?
You can talk to your mentee about your educational experience (the good and the bad), your personal experience (things you've learned about being in college), the importance of time management, about your mentee’s academic and personal concerns, etc.

HOW OFTEN DO I MEET WITH MY MENTEE?
You will meet with your mentees a minimum of once a month (but as needed) for the academic year.

WHO ARE THE MENTEES AT LCSC?
The student mentees at LCSC are those students who have below average SAT, ACT, or COMPASS scores, have a GED or earned a cumulative high school GPA less than a 2.0.
