Collectively student athletes under my tutelage have decided not to referred to as throwers. No one really throws field implements - we are flingers (javelin), slingers (discus), and pushers (shot).

Background:
My javelin career began what seems now - eons ago. Leaving the flinging of javelins to younger athletes, yet still looking for that endorphin release during competition - I play a lot of golf!
My favorite foresome would include my brother Jim, and two others!

My coaching philosophy is simple - I love what I do and I do it for the athletes.
I strive to support every athlete I come in contact with a positive level of guidance in athletics and everyday life.

Annual Training Schedule:

Phase I: Foundation

Encapsulates full range of movement (ROM)  - we are trying to get the mind to talk to the muscles. Each athlete progresses through a holistic training program that begins with building a sturdy foundation of overall strength to ward off injury.

Phase II: Power Development

Now we are going to utilize our newly acquired strength to emphasize speed and agility for technical movements. We increase the intensity of movement over a shorter duration of time and include ballistic plyometrics.

Phase III: Competition

Bringing it all to fruition and watch what happens!

Phase IV: Off Season

Relaxing away from the field and training. Enjoy other sports to keep moving.

Classes I am currently teaching (and in the past) at LCSC:
Geo 335: Earth Surface Processes (process geomorphology)
Geog 102: Introduction to Geography
NS 150: Introduction to Science
NS 172: Integrated Science (elementary teacher education)
GEO 120: Earth Systems Science (Dual Credit with Clearwater High School)
(Geo 100: Geology)
(Geo 102: Historical Geology)

I qualified for the NCAA Division II national championships in 1983 and1984.
My personal best of 258' 7" was ranked the 8th farthest fling ever in the bay area.

This particular fling at Sacramento State University sailed 238'
