hands-on lab experience provides an overview of web development,
web design, and web programming to teachers. Participants will
be given an opportunity to learn several contemporary
technologies (ExpressionWeb, Adobe Flash, Scripting) and expand
upon those that interest them most with Jason Blazzard who has
been teaching at LCSC since 1997 in the areas of web development
and information systems

This session will provide a round table discussion of the
postsecondary options available for SolidWorks users and how
to integrate this into the high school classroom. (A.A.S.,
B.A.S., B.S. options) Representatives from the Idaho
Division of PTE, SkillsUSA, LCSC, WSU & industry will be
present to address activities and developments with the
SolidWorks in the High School initiative.

This session will peak the interest of any science teacher
or health professions instructor. Come see a new
state-of-the-art facility dedicated to educating students in
nursing and biological sciences. This tour will include
everything from viewing advanced labs to advance manikins
that can even simulate birth!
Preparing students for Pre-Medical &
Dental Hygiene programs

Dr. Hornby has been advising Pre-Med students for years at
LCSC. He has had a proven track record of an exceptional
acceptance rate of students he’s advised in LCSC’s Pre-Med
track. Science and Health Professions educators will be
able to see what courses students are advised to take from
the high school to baccalaureate degree level to be
successful in applying for medical school. Together Dr.
Hornby and Mrs. Mulrony (LCSC dental hygiene instructor)
will provide a tour and information about the new dental
hygiene program on the LCSC campus.

more about the forms of energy and energy transformations using
lessons and demonstrations from NEED’s Science of Energy Kit.
The lessons are inquiry based and provide students with the
foundational understanding of kinetic and potential energy and
the way one form of energy transforms into another.
Solar Energy 101 and Hands-on Solar
(Session C: Part 2 of a 4 part Series)

From
solar thermal to photovoltaics, these lessons provide educators
with opportunities to teach about radiant energy transformations
to electrical energy and to thermal energy. The activities and
demonstrations help students learn about light and heat and the
use of solar technologies for generating electricity.
Biodiesel (Session D: Part 3 of a 4 part
Series)

Biodiesel, this session provides educators with information on
how to recycle used cooking oil by turning it into a viable
fuel.
Energy in the Wind & Hands-on Wind Energy
(Session E & F: Part 4 of a 4 part Series)
Winston, Mike; Zirker, Larry (Friday,
8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Location: Lewiston High School Auto Shop)
Participants will discuss where to find curriculum data germane
to alternate energy systems and classroom ready lesson plans.
They will conduct a hands-on exercise where the instructor and
students will build a wind turbine generator, turbine blades,
generate a voltage using a hair dryer and measure the voltage on
a meter. Using lessons and activities from the American Wind
Energy Association and NREL sponsored NEED wind curriculum,
educators learn about wind and weather, harnessing mechanical
energy to transform wind into useful electrical energy, and the
application of wind technologies. NEED and Kid Wind
collaborated on the NEED wind curriculum and the wind kits
include resources from both partners.
