Spring 2013 Registration Process

Dear Tech Prep Liaison/Program Instructors:

Registration will take place January 2nd through February 1st.  Students need to have their Pre-College Admission & Registration Form (pdf) turned in to Tech Prep Instructor/Counselor no later than Friday, 2-1-13 at 3:00p.m. 

Steps to Registering Students

1. Counselor/Instructor provides a 5-10 minute presentation to high school classes that offer Tech Prep credit. 

   TECH PREP:  Students registered for a Tech Prep class will begin building a transcript at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC).  The credits earned under the Tech Prep program are technical college credits, not academic credits.  These credits will be most valuable to students with career goals in technical areas.  However, most colleges, including LCSC will accept these credits as elective credits which can accompany any future degree.  If a student wishes to transfer credits to another institution, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the receiving institution will accept technical credits as either a program requirement or as an elective credit. 

   There is no cost to participate in Tech Prep.  To register, students must submit a Pre-College Admission & Registration Form  to LCSC.  The student must be at least 16 years of age by the registration deadline OR have successfully completed one-half of his/her high school graduation requirements OR have obtained high school faculty signature if 14 or 15 years of age.  Tech Prep policy requires a passing grade of “B” or better before credit is awarded.   Students failing to meet the grade requirement will receive a grade of "NC" (No Credit) which will be recorded on the student’s LCSC official transcript.  Although this "NC" will not affect his/her G.P.A, multiple "No Credit" courses can affect a student's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).  SAP is a condition for receiving financial aid as a full time college student.  Please go to www.lcsc.edu/financialaid/SAPPolicy.pdf for more information.  You may also contact the Tech Prep office by phone (208) 792-2418 or e-mail techprep@lcsc.edu if you have any questions.
    

2. During the presentation, Counselor/Instructor informs students of Tech Prep benefits and registration requirements, and assists in filling out the Pre-College Admission & Registration Form.
   
   Counselor/Instructor will read the following:
    
   1. BENEFIT - College Savings:
      - Per credit price at LCSC is $285; however, Tech Prep credit is FREE.
       

2. REQUIREMENTS - Registration:
   - Students must be at least 16 years of age OR have successfully completed half of his/her high school graduation requirements OR have obtained high school faculty signature if 14 or 15 years of age. 
   -  Students must receive a passing grade of  a "B" or better before credit is awarded.
    
3. Pre-College Admission & Registration Form:
   -  This form must be filled out entirely for each semester a student takes a  class.
   -  Special emphasis should be placed on student signature, parent signature, social security number, and student birth date.
   - Instructor assistance should be provided with course numbers (go to http://www.lcsc.edu/techprep/schools.htm and click on school).
    

3. Counselor/Instructor announces registration deadline of 3:00p.m. Friday, February 1st. 
4. Counselor/Instructor follows up with students' last week of registration (1-28-13 thru 2-1-13).  
5. Counselor/Instructor gathers and signs all Tech Prep forms from students and faxes them to (208) 792-2568, if there are fewer than 15 forms.  Please call or e-mail the Tech Prep Coordinator to verify receipt of fax.  If you have more than 15, call the Tech Prep Coordinator to schedule a pick-up.  DO NOT MAIL FORMS.
