Math & PTE Teachers Go to
Summer Camp
Over 20 educators from varying backgrounds (mathematics, PTE, counseling,
administration) attended the two day in-service titled, "2009 Summer Math Camp
for
Math & PTE Teachers," June 30 & July 1. With tours the first day to ATK, St.
Joseph Regional Medical Center and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc. attendees
learned how math is used daily in the "world of work." The second day
this group gleaned
information not only from LCSC and LHS's engineering-based
technical math curriculum
which pulls examples from industry/PTE courses but also
from each other. Collectively the group identified a list of the most
challenging math concepts facing students today. Those attendees who chose
to write a paper for their in-service credit were tasked with writing the
"perfect lesson." These various lessons will not only be used by the
attendees but also have the potential to be used as a script for a web video
project through LCSC. This web project would bring math instructors and
industries to create a 5-minute lesson on a specific math principal/concept. |
