The Warriors evened the score with Gonzaga with a 5-2 win at Central
Park Racquet Club in Spokane. The Bulldogs had beaten LC 4-3 in Lewiston
in January. LC is 3-2 on the season and on a three win streak.
"Winning the doubles point was the key today. We sometimes rely too much
on our singles to get us through but we have been working out some
different combinations the last few weeks to prepare for today and it
paid off."
LC then went on to clinch four of the six singles for the victory.
"We finally broke the 4-3 trend. The previous five matches have been decided
by that score."

WARRIORS SUBDUE UTAH STATE
March 13, 2000 LCSC Tennis Center
After losing its first two matches of the season, the Warriors are riding a four match win
streak with a well earned victory over Utah State in the Tennis Center. Utah State had
beaten Eastern Washington 4-3 the day before, and Eastern had previously beaten LC 4-3 in
February in Cheney. It did not look good for the Warriors on paper.
"We set our goal for a 4-3 score - win the doubles point and then work to split the
singles somehow. We got more than that. The Warriors came away with a 5-2 win. All the
matches were keenly contested. No blowouts anywhere. I wish we could have more of these
kind of matches - high level, high intensity stuff".
"Utah State had a very vocal and emotional team. You would have thought we were
playing in Logan. Our players did very well in playing to our energy level and tuning out
the noise. We had great matchups throughout the lineup. Everyone played with a lot of heart
today. Every where you turn, there was a great match."
The doubles did their trick again. Ever since reworking #1 and #2 doubles against Whitman,
both tandems are 3-0. Currently, they (Vinnie-Dermot and Marcus-Joao) have the right
chemistry. Both teams broke serve in the middle of the set and did not look back after
that.
Vinnie tamed a high flying, big serving, big hitting transfer from UNLV in straight sets.
Andy would come up with some big shots and winners, but Vinnie stayed calm to win in
straight sets for point number 2. Joao settled down after a rough first set to beat a
determined, adrenalin pumping opponent in three(for point number 3). Dermot used every
stroke of luck and every ounce of his creativity to conjour a victory over a strong
net-charging player. His victory sealed the dual match for the team.
Daniel #5 was not third time lucky with his three setter outing. He has lost three this
season.
Sasa #6 knew what he had to do, but could not execute the strategy . Marcus added salt to
the wound with a straight set victory at number 3 singles.
Next up for the Warriors are Albertson College and University of Alberta on Saturday at
home.

MARCH 18 - LCSC 7 Albertson 2
LCSC 7 Alberta 2
The Warriors improved to 6-2 on the season with a couple of wins this
weekend against regional foes Albertson College and University of
Alberta. LC put up a good showing despite having to play a double
header.
Against Albertson, the Coyotes won #1 and #3 doubles to take the early
lead, but LC came back strong to win all the singles matches with only
one of them going into a third set.
"This was a much improved Albertson's team. The scary thing is they have
not fielded their strongest team yet."
Against Alberta, LC got the jump start by taking two of the three
doubles. The Warriors played solid in singles to clinch five of the six
matches. Marcus had an epic three hour match which ended after three
tie-breakers. The final one had a 11-9 score and equal match point
opportunities for both players. "That has to rank as one of the best
matches in the Tennis Center and the first to to go that distance. It
was a battle of the wills. If there ever was a situation where one can
claim "everyone's a winner", this was it. Both players were smiling big
and feeling good at the end.
The next action for the Warriors will be in California next week.
