Business Plans

(Developing and Submitting)

Do you need a business plan but don't know where to begin?  This course is for you.  Most businesses never start, or fail early, due to lack of good planning.  A business plan is an essential document for describing goals and objectives, and enabling the measurement of progress toward achieving them.  In this course you will learn the three elements that a successful business plan consists of and eleven different steps used in creating an efficient written business plan, and much more.

Credit and Collection for Small Business

Should your business carry customer accounts?  Can you afford to?  A firm accounts receivable portfolio is often the largest asset on the balance sheet;  therefore, should be regarded in much the same way as any other commitment of business resources.  This course will focus on credit and business as it pertains to small business and entrepreneurs.  You will learn about the role of receivables management and the working tools that are available to the person performing credit and collection tasks.  This course will address questions such as:  Is a credit department needed?  And why offer credit policies?  You will also learn about credit files and records, credit decision-making, the investigation process, and much more.

Introduction to Small Business

(Starting and Managing a Small Business)

This course will focus on what you need to know about opening a small business.  We'll give you the practical knowledge you need when starting your small business and where to go to get more information and assistance that will be needed prior to opening your business.  This course will cover thinking creatively, and turning your knowledge and skills into efficient self-assessment, where to find help and networking, and the creative process.  You will also learn why accounting matters, legal issues relating to small business, budgeting, and much more.

Technical Writing I

In this four hour course, participants will learn the basics of audience analysis.  They'll also learn the definition of technical writing and how proficiency in technical writing can improve their work and peer relations at work as well as overall agency and company wide performance.  There will be in-class exercises and discussions.  Learn how to design writing that informs rather than impresses.  Learn the concepts of active voice, second person and present tense.  This course is a must for anyone who communicates with the written word within an organization of any size or type.

Technical Writing II

In this four hour course, participants will identify the barriers they experience in technical writing.  They will learn to generate solutions to those challenges.  Learn to eliminate wordiness, getting to the point efficiently and effectively, and the goal of your writing.  Learn the mechanics of e-mail etiquette and proper punctuation.  There will be in-class exercises and discussions that will reinforce the writing strategies leaned in the course.
