Here you will find all you need to know
about taking a Certificated Nursing Assistant
(CNA) course to fulfill your pre-requisite
requirements for the LCSC Nursing Division.

On-Campus Class
Information:
(1)
This course does not have
an on-line component.
(2)
All of the class work and
skill training are done in the classroom with an
instructor.
There may be some out of class
study/homework required.
(3)
You will meet for a total
of 80 hours of instruction, an 8 hour CPR class
(if needed), and 40 hours of skill training at
an approved facility (which the instructor and
student will arrange).

Hybrid Class
Information:
(1)
Class work will be
completed on-line through LCSCs blackboard
system.
You
MUST
have access to an internet connection to take
this class.
(2)
You will meet with the
instructor for 7 classroom sessions to learn and
practice your skills.
(3)
You will meet for a total
of 28 hours for skill training, an 8 hour CPR
class (if needed), and 40 hours of skill
training at an approved facility.
General Information:

Attendance is mandatory.
(2)
Books can be purchased at
the bookstore.
(3)
You need to purchase one
set of solid colored scrubs and white shoes.
(4)
Course runs for 10 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
QUESTION 1: What does the CNA
class teach me?
CNAs work under the supervision of a nurse and
provide assistance to patients with daily living
tasks.
As a CNA, you are responsible for basic
care services such as bathing, transferring,
grooming and feeding patients, assisting nurses
with medical equipment, and checking patient
vital signs.
You will give patients important social
and emotional support and also provide vital
information on patient conditions to nurses.
QUESTION 2: What does the hybrid
CNA class require in terms of time and on-campus
time?
You will complete all of your
didactic training on-line through LCSCs
Blackboard system, thus you must have access to
the internet to take this course.
Your
instructor will set deadlines for work to be
completed via the course calendar.
You will meet with your instructor for 7
sessions, each 4 hours long to learn and
practice your skills.
QUESTION 3:
How long will it take me to complete my
CNA class?
The class is 10 weeks long.
This does not include your state skill
and written exams.
QUESTION 4: How long do I need to
wait after the class to begin state testing?
At the end of the class, the
instructor will turn in a final roster
indicating who has passed the course.
Once this information is received by LCSC
Workforce Training, the student may register to
take the skill exam.
You
register for the skill exam at Workforce
Training (208-792-2388). The skill exam must be
passed prior to taking the written exam.
You have six months after course
completion to take your skill exam.
Should you fail your first attempt, you
have another six months from the exam date to
skill test again.
You will be allowed three attempts to
pass your skill exam.
After you have passed the skill exam, you
then qualify to take the written exam at the
Center for New Directions (208-792-2331).
You have three attempts to pass the
written exam also.
QUESTION 5: I have let my CNA
certificate expire.
What do I need
to do to have my certificate reinstated?
You will need to contact the
Idaho State Nurse Aide Registry at
1-800-748-2480.
They will advise you on your next step.
QUESTION 6: I have taken the CNA
test in another state but didn’t pass; can I
test at Workforce Training?
No.
You will need to contact the Idaho State
Nurse Aide Registry at 1-800-748-2480.
They will advise you on your next step.
QUESTION 7: I hold a CNA license
in other State, can I work as an aide in Idaho?
You will need to contact the
Idaho State Nurse Aide Registry at
1-800-748-2480.
They will advise you on your next step.
QUESTION 8: How much does the
class cost?
Is testing a
separate cost?
If so, what is
the cost?
As of January 2010 the class
cost is $535 plus books.
The skill exam is $50 per exam.
The written exam is also $50/exam. If you
fail either of your exams, you will have to pay
the fee again in order to test again.
QUESTION 9: I am in high school;
can I take the CNA training?
Yes.
You may want to check with your local
high school.
Many of the high schools already have the
program in place.
QUESTION 10: I am an EMT,
paramedic, or military medic?
Is that the
same as a nursing assistant?
No.
You will need to take the course.
