IMPORT A TEXT FILE

Get Ready
Identify the name of the text file you want to import.
Determine where, on your computer, the text file is stored.
Example: C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP
Decide if your text file is Delimited (separated by commas) or Fixed (set in even columns).

Begin
Display the File menu and then click the word Open.
OR
Hold down the Ctrl key and then type O
OR
Click the button.
Use the directory buttons or just type the location where the document is stored.
Select Text Files from the Files of type list box.
Double-click the name of the text file. In a few moments, the Text File Import Wizard will display.
Select either the Delimited or Fixed option, based on the contents of your text file. If necessary, fill in the other boxes on this page.
Click the button. If you need to, set column breaks on the next page of the wizard.
Click the button. If necessary, set number formats on the next page of the wizard.
Click the button.
