The LCSC Writing Center is a tutoring service staffed by knowledgeable students and faculty to help students of all disciplines become better writers. The service is free to you as an LCSC student, sustained by student and course fees.
The center is a writing space where students can work with staff to improve all aspects of writing. Because we believe that collaboration and peer feedback are powerful learning tools, we invite you to discuss your writing with trained peer consultants.
Appointments are not always necessary, though, we certainly encourage them. To make an appointment, stop by Library Room 172 or call us at 208.792.2433.
When you visit, please bring a paper copy of your assignment. Also handy is an assignment sheet so we can better understand the assignment’s requirements.
Peer-consultants are trained to assist in all stages of the writing process: brainstorming & prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Because consultants are well-versed in multiple genres and research styles, they will be able to assist you on lab reports, APA research essays, or PowerPoint presentations.
All peer-consultants have been recommended by faculty for their writing and interpersonal communication skills. Several peer consultants have completed more than 400 hours of peer conferencing, and they mentor, informally, new peer consultants. Peer-consultants also participate in regular staff meetings to ensure continuity and contribute to the professional development of the center. Some consultants have also attended conferences such as the Rocky Mountain Peer Tutoring Conference to further develop and learn about new tutoring and writing strategies.
