My name is Polly Knutson and I am an Assistant Professor of Applied Accounting within the Business Technology & Service Division at Lewis-Clark State College (LC State). I have been teaching with LC State for the last four years. Prior to becoming a faculty member, I was the Director of Research Administration with the University of Idaho for eleven years, a Senior Investment Accountant with the University of Idaho Foundation for six years, and the Controller for Manito Golf and Country Club for three years. I started my educational journey by getting a technical certificate from a local business school after high school graduation and I worked my way through undergraduate school by serving as an administrative assistant in various accounting firms in the Lewis-Clark Valley. I decided to return to higher education in August of 1989 and graduated with my BA in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Washington State University in 1994 and immediately went to work for a regional public accounting firm in Spokane, Washington as an entry level Auditor. As an auditor, I was offered the Controller position with a client and thus began my career in accounting in the private sector. In 2011, I decided to return to school and obtained my Master’s in Forensic Accounting by the end of 2013. In late 2014, I began teaching as an adjunct instructor and decided to make the move to full time professor in the fall semester of 2015. I absolutely love teaching. My favorite moment is when I get to see the look on a student’s face as the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together. That is true joy for me.
