Get Ready! Be Prepared!  

  • Attend one of several Career Fair preparation workshops in August and September.  Check Handshake for  workshop registration and details. 
  • Consider making an appointment with the Career Center to discuss any questions you have. You can schedule an appointment on Handshake. The Career Center can help you map out your 30 second introduction, practice approaching employers, polish that resume, or perform a mock interview.
How to Prepare for the Career Fair

The keys to a successful job fair experience are preparation and follow-up. Here is a quick checklist to help you get prepared:

  • Research the list of participating employers
  • Attend career workshops offered through the Student Employment—Career Center prior to the fair. Workshops will be listed on Handshake.
  • Have your resume reviewed by the Student Employment—Career Center
  • Prepare your 30 second elevator speech
  • Make sure you have professional business attire (suit), padfolio, and several copies of your resume

Employers at the Career Fair

Registration

Students and alumni do not need to register for career fairs.

Attendees should check-in with staff upon arrival to receive a name tag. The Student Employment—Career Center advising table is available for any last-minute advice.

Professional Dress

Business professional attire (this means suit jackets) is recommended for all students and alumni attending Career Fairs. Business casual is recommended at a minimum — no sweats, and no denim.
Quick Tips
•    Clothing should be clean. Neutral colors are recommended.
•    Hair should be neat and clean in a style that keeps hair out of the face.
•    Nails should be clean and trimmed.
•    Avoid cologne or heavy perfume.
•    Avoid overly distracting accessories, jewelry and makeup.
•    Cover visible piercings and tattoos.

Students and alumni should dress professionally and bring copies of their resume to the fair.

Transportation
