LC State freshman Schroeder is a winner in national Sodexo contest

LEWISTON, Idaho – Entering a contest on a whim, Lewis-Clark State College freshman Eligh Schroeder made both a winner of himself and the Warrior Food Pantry on campus.

Schroeder was one of 19 college students from across the country to have his name drawn in the Sodexo Dishing Out Dreams Sweepstakes. For the win, Schroeder receives a $575 Best Buy gift card and picked the Warrior Food Pantry as his recipient of a $500 donation in his name.

The contest was part of Sodexo’s effort to help nonprofit agencies. Entrants had to be enrolled in a post-secondary school that has Sodexo-managed campus dining services. Sodexo manages the dining area in the LC State Student Union Building/Center for Student Leadership.

In the contest, students had from Aug. 29 to Nov. 18 to enter. Schroeder said he was eating at the SUB/CSL when he noticed a flyer about the contest and joked with his friends about it. He said he scanned the QR code on his phone and filled out the online entry information and submitted it. As part of the submission, he had to name a legally recognized food charity or not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and food education. Schroeder selected the food pantry on campus because “it’s the one that is most beneficial to me and my peers on campus,” he said.

The Warrior Pantry is located in the LC State library and serves all LC State students, faculty, and staff who have a college ID number.

With the gift card, Schroeder said he plans to buy a new tablet.

Schroeder is a freshman from Moscow majoring in cybersecurity management at LC State. He is a hockey referee in Moscow and his goal is to become a professional hockey referee.
