Stephen Lyman Memorial
Children's Art Exhibit
The LCSC
Center for Arts & History’s display of the
Stephen Lyman Memorial Children’s Art
Exhibit begins runs through the end of
April.
This is
one of the Dogwood Festival’s oldest events,
held in honor of the late Stephen Lyman who
passed away in 1996 after a hiking accident.
Lyman was
an artist and wildlife enthusiast who
specialized in painting the most elusive
moments in nature. His love of the great
outdoors stemmed from his Childhood spent in
the Pacific Northwest where hiking in the
Snake River area was a regular family
occurrence.
Lyman was
born in Idaho in 1957. At the age of five,
his family moved to Lewiston where he
attended Whitman and Webster schools. He
went on to Jennifer Junior High and later
graduated Valedictorian of Lewiston High
School in 1975. Upon graduation he enrolled
in the Art Center School of Design in
Pasadena, CA. where he graduated with top
honors. He returned to Idaho and spent two
years exploring and developing his style of
painting.
The
Children’s artwork will be on display until
April 30th. It featured dogwood
themed art from local artists “K” through 6th
grade. The exhibit is shared with the Junior
High Art show and is being displayed up the
stairway and onto the 2nd floor
of the Center for Arts and History.
Participating students will receive
certificates for their art.
The
Center is located at 415 Main Street,
downtown Lewiston. Gallery hours are 11-4
Tues.- Sat.
The
galleries are closed Sunday and Monday.
Public admission is free and donations are
welcome.
