Humanities
The Humanities division offers
undergraduates a rich liberal arts education,
with options for a B.A or B.S. degree
in Communication Arts and a B.A.
degree in English, Creative
Writing, or English: Secondary Education.
We also cooperate with other divisions
to offer a B.A. or B.S. in Business
and Communication Arts or an individualized
Interdisciplinary degree plan. Students
who seek a two-year degree can earn
an A.A. in Liberal Arts or Liberal
Arts: Humanities through our division
and students in any major may enhance
their degree with a minor in Art,
Communication, Creative Writing,
English, Music, Native American
Studies, Nez Perce Language, Publishing Arts, and Spanish. Students who live in
the Coeur d’Alene area can complete
a B.A./B.S. degree in Communication
Arts or Interdisciplinary Studies
at the LCSC Coeur d’Alene Center.
Students in Humanities programs
and courses get a rich exposure
to both theoretical and practical
knowledge, preparing them for professional
success as well as further education.
Humanities students have many opportunities
to offer what they learn in the
classroom to the public: through
student music and theater performances,
video productions, Talking River
(our literary journal), internships
in the schools, peer consulting
in the Writing Center and Communication
Center, speech and debate competitions,
art showings, and open Mic
events held in a popular local pub.
The Visiting Writers Series, the
annual Stegner lecture, instrumental
and choral music concerts, theater
productions, and film festivals
are just some of the ways
in which the Humanities division
brings the arts to the LCSC campus
and community. The Humanities
division also provides leadership
for Writing Across the Curriculum,
and is deeply engaged in delivering
General Education Core courses,
as well as foreign and heritage
language courses, professional preparation
courses, and developmental courses,
all of which help students achieve
their educational and professional
objectives. Humanities faculty
invigorate their teaching and service
with their scholarly and creative
endeavors, often in collaborative
partnerships with students.
