Publishing Arts

About

This minor helps prepare students for a career in publishing through theory and practice in the publishing art, including instruction in writing, editing, design and printing, technical production, marketing, and distribution of publications.

Publishing arts majors learn:

• Developmental and copy editing, from manuscript feedback to line-level polish.
• Layout and design principles for print and digital publications.
• Technical production, including prepress and printing workflows.
• Marketing and distribution strategy for a publication.
• End-to-end experience managing a real publication through an immersive internship with "Talking River Review."

Students also benefit from meeting with visiting writers and networking at literary events.

Publishing arts is also available as a minor.
