Medical Laboratory Technology
Coming Spring 2027!
The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program trains students to become skilled medical lab technicians capable of conducting a wide range of laboratory tests across all complexity levels—from basic to advanced. Students receive comprehensive training in key laboratory areas such as phlebotomy, medical microbiology, hematology and hemostasis, clinical chemistry, blood banking, urinalysis and body fluid analysis, and laboratory operations. The program combines online lectures with hands-on laboratory sessions and clinical internship experiences.
The state of Idaho offers the MLT program through a consortium of Idaho colleges. LC State is expecting to join the consortium for Spring 2027.
Currently, North Idaho College (NIC), College of Southern Idaho (CSI) and College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) make up the Idaho Consortium of Medical Laboratory Technology Education (ICMLTE).
Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for national certification examinations offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT). An MLT AAS degree provides pathways to both MLT and Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certifications. These certifications enhance employment opportunities in clinical laboratories.
