More than 500 high school juniors are expected at LCSC for conference on careers

LEWISTON, Idaho – More than 500 juniors from 36 high schools in northern Idaho and southeastern Washington are expected to attend the third annual “Dream It. Do It… Here” youth conference on March 1 at Lewis-Clark State College.

The purpose of the conference, which is coordinated by LCSC and Clearwater Economic Development Association, and hosted by the college, is to educate high school juniors about possible career choices and the education they will need to obtain their preferred job. It will also showcase the employment opportunities in the area to help keep skilled labor in the area.

Around 80 industry and government representatives from manufacturing, healthcare, technology, hospitality, business, finance, and the skilled trades will lead 30-minute breakout sessions and will share information on local occupations. Recruiting representatives from LCSC, University of Idaho, Walla Walla Community College, and Washington State University will host another 20 sessions to link students to career pathways for the local job market.

Each student will be scheduled to participate in five breakout sessions – four for industry and one for education. Students will be placed in some sessions based on their interests identified on their conference registration.

For more information on the conference, contact Christine Frei, Executive Director of the Clearwater Economic Development Association, at either 208-746-0015 or cfrei@clearwater-eda.org.
