Academic Accommodations

Lewis-Clark State College is committed to providing equal access and opportunity for all resident students. If you are a student enrolled in the Prison Education Program and have a documented disability, you may be eligible for academic accommodations to support your learning. Accommodations are designed to remove barriers and ensure that all students can fully participate in their courses.

To request accommodations or learn more about available support, please visit the LC State Corrections Education webpage. All information is kept confidential, and staff will work with you to determine appropriate adjustments based on your individual needs.

Reasonable Accommodation

It is the responsibility of the individual with a disability to self-identify to Prison Education staff, connect with the Accessibility Services Office, and to provide documentation.

When the individual and the Accessibility Services staff meet via phone, they will discuss the appropriate and reasonable accommodations that may benefit the individual in the classroom or during exams. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis considering an individual's limitations and the academic demands and responsibilities of each resident student taking part in the LC State Corrections Education program.

Student Information

  1. The student must indicate their need for academic accommodations to a LC staff member, faculty member, or designated facility education staff.
  2. The student will work with their facility educational staff to gather documentation. Documentation may include educational or medical records, reports and assessments created by health care providers, school psychologists, teachers, or the educational system relevant to the student’s accommodation needs. More information about documentation can be found below.
  3. Facility educational staff will provide the student with an academic release of information to review and sign for the Accessibility Services office. The facility education staff will send the signed release of information back to Accessibility Services. The release of information is needed to send approved accommodations to LC faculty.
  4. Request an intake meeting with Accessibility Services staff via the facility education staff.
    • Facility education staff will set up a phone call between the Accessibility Services staff and the student. Only the facility educational staff member and the student should be present for that meeting to ensure confidentiality.
    • The student and Accessibility Services staff will review documentation, discuss the student’s disability(ies), and determine the needed accommodations.
    • If accommodations are approved, those will be explained to the student and notifications will be sent directly from Accessibility Services to the faculty for those classes, via lcsc.edu email addresses.

  1. If a student is having issues getting accommodations met or feels they need to adjust what was given to them, they will inform their facility education staff they need to set up another meeting with Accessibility Services.
  2. At the beginning of every semester, they are enrolled and want to use their accommodations, students will need to speak with our office.

They do not need to resubmit any medical paperwork unless their conditions have changed and medical documentation needs to be reviewed for changes to accommodation.
