Harry Bettis Scholarship Program
Lewis-Clark State College is proud to partner with the Harry L. Bettis Foundation in establishing the Harry Bettis Scholarship Program which will provide need-based scholarships to attendees from rural communities throughout Idaho. This transformational gift will change the face of scholarships at LC State, standing as the second largest single scholarship in the college’s history.
Harry Bettis was an Idaho icon. A fourth-generation Idahoan, Harry was an outdoor man, who, despite a Stanford education, preferred a life wearing Levis and a Pendleton Shirt and riding a tall horse followed by a cow dog. Harry was a banker, philanthropist, and life-long rancher who believed that some of the most valuable lessons in life could be learned through hard work and practical experience, but he was also a champion of higher education. He understood the importance of investing in Idaho’s future leaders and its rural communities. Most importantly, Harry cared about access to opportunity; in particular, providing access to students in rural communities to help achieve their educational and professional goals. Harry endowed the Harry L. Bettis Foundation to carry on his legacy of support for higher education and rural communities in Idaho. In furtherance of its mission, the Bettis Foundation has established the Harry L. Bettis Scholarship Fund at Lewis-Clark State College to provide funding for the Harry Bettis Scholarship Program. Students who have a material and meaningful connection to a rural community in Idaho and who satisfy other requirements to attend Lewis-Clark State College may apply for need-based scholarships to attend Lewis-Clark State College. Through Harry’s generosity, these scholarships will help meet 100% of demonstrated need as determined by the FAFSA making a Lewis-Clark State College education truly attainable for many more students.
This fall, LC State awarded scholarships from the Harry L. Bettis Scholarship fund to 107 students. Qualified students will have the opportunity to apply when the scholarship portal opens on December 1 for Fall 2027 scholarships.
