First Book-LCSC accepting grant applications

First Book-LCSC is accepting grant applications. The grants are available to literacy programs that work with under-resourced children in Lewis, Nez Perce, Clearwater, Idaho, and Asotin counties.
First Book is a national nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. First Book distributes books through its network of volunteer-member advisory boards.
The primary goal of First Book is to work with existing community literacy programs to distribute new books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books. First Book does not provide direct financial support, nor does it provide books to individuals, families, or book drives. Programs interested in receiving books from First Book Advisory Boards must operate in an area served by a First Book Advisory Board; fully complete a First Book Grant Application; submit the application to a First Book Advisory Board; and meet the eligibility requirements. Organizations must also agree to use the books in their program and then distribute them to the children to take home and keep.
Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. February 20. They can be emailed to Kaitlin Cushman, First Book-LCSC, at [email protected] or mailed or hand delivered to the LCSC Service Corps Office, 826 7th Street, Lewiston, Idaho 83501.
