The Lewis-Clark State College Sustainability Action Team (SAT) is celebrating Earth Week by promoting environmental awareness on campus and off.
Alicia Reddy, Team chairperson and LC Service Corps Service Learning Coordinator, is heading up the effort. Manifestations of her work at the Student Union Building include (or will include by week's end) a giant Earth cutout that spreads a message warning of over-consumption; a pile of garbage bags (without the garbage) near the cafeteria that explains how much food from an average lunch is wasted each year; information about reusable food containers and cups available at the cafeteria; and a new recycling room near the dining area at the cafeteria.
At Sam Glenn Complex, there is a display about washing clothes in cold water versus warm and the related energy savings.
In Meriwether Lewis Hall, statistics on recycling aluminum cans will be on display.
On Thursday, April 18, SAT will staff a booth featuring information on sustainability, giveaways and games at the Earth Day event in downtown Lewiston from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
