Dr. Carmen Simone, Lewis-Clark State College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has been appointed president of Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC) in Trinidad, Colorado. She was appointed to her new position by Dr. Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College System and will assume the presidency on June 3, 2013.
"I am very pleased that Dr. Simone has accepted the presidency of Trinidad State Junior College," McCallin said. "Her background in community college leadership, the comments from the college and community, and my time with her make me confident that she will be a strong, effective leader for the college. We are all looking forward to working with her and welcome her to the system and to the college."
LCSC President Tony Fernandez offered words of praise for Simone.
"Carmen has been very instrumental in making LCSC a stronger college and we wish her all the best at Trinidad State Junior College," said Fernández. "She will make a fine president and she will be sorely missed."
"This is a bittersweet day for me," said Simone. "While I'm honored and excited to begin serving Trinidad State Junior College as their next president, I’m also saddened to be leaving Lewis-Clark State College. The faculty and staff at LCSC are truly remarkable in their dedication to our students. I'm indebted to President Fernandez for the opportunity to serve as the provost of such a fine institution."
Simone has served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at LCSC since August 2011. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Academic Affairs at Casper College in Casper, Wyoming. Before being appointed vice president at Casper College, she served for 11 years as a chemistry faculty member and was elected chair of the Faculty Senate. She also served as the Physical Science Division Chair. She held the position of president for the National Council for Instructional Administrators, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, while at Casper College. Simone earned a bachelor's of science in Chemistry from the University of North Dakota and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Colorado State University.
Trinidad State Junior College has about 2,200 students on campuses in Trinidad and Alamosa. In its 87th year, it is the oldest community college in the state.
The Colorado Community College System comprises the state's largest system of higher education, serving more than 163,000 students annually. It oversees career and academic programs in the 13 state community colleges and career and technical programs in more than 160 school districts and six other post-secondary institutions.
