New scholarship available to LCSC Dental Hygiene students

A new scholarship has been established to assist Dental Hygiene students at Lewis-Clark State College. The Chetwood Dental Hygiene Scholarship was established by retired Lewiston dentist Dr. William Chetwood and his wife Martha (Peggy).
The Chetwoods said they understand the financial challenges of students seeking a professional degree. They were married when William was in dental school and they had 1 1/2 children when he graduated. Dr. Chetwood served two years as a US Navy dentist and 32 years in general practice in Lewiston. Peggy kept the books and raised their four children.
"Dentistry is both challenging and rewarding and we feel privileged to be able to help deserving students," the Chetwoods said.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full time in the Dental Hygiene program on the Lewis-Clark State College campus; must be in their second year in the program; must demonstrate financial need; and must show a potential for success in the Dental Hygiene field.
LCSC Dental Hygiene Associate Professor Vonda Mulrony said the Dental Hygiene Program at LCSC is very grateful and excited about having a scholarship available for students who are enrolled at Lane Community College located in Eugene, Oregon, while doing their practical work at LCSC.
"Dr. Chetwood worked as a supervising dentist at the clinic the first two years our program was established," said Mulrony. "The students loved working with him and we were disappointed to see him retire. I will always be grateful for his support and advice."
