Lewis-Clark State College commencement is Friday

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College commencement takes place Friday night, May 16 at the LCSC Activity Center.  There will be 827 degrees awarded to 756 students.

The commencement program begins at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m.  Seating is open and no ticket is required for admission.  Overflow seating is not available.  Space for wheelchairs will be available on the floor of the Activity Center.  Handicapped parking is available in the parking lot located across from the Activity Center on 6th Street, north of 9th Avenue.

LCSC President J. Anthony (Tony) Fernández will deliver the keynote address.  He will also welcome special guests Dr. William Goesling, Member of the Idaho State Board of Education; Dr. Edward Miller, Chair of the LCSC Faculty Association; and Sam Carlson, President of the Associated Students of Lewis-Clark State College.

Special recognition will be extended to several individuals.  President Fernández will present the President’s Medallion to Mike Ripley, President and General Manager of 4K Radio and Member and former President of the Lewis-Clark State College Foundation Board of Directors and the Warrior Athletic Association Board of Directors.  Sam White Temple will receive the President's Award for Excellence in Diversity and Cross-Cultural Understanding.  White Temple is the Retention Specialist for the LCSC Native American/Minority Student Services Program.  He is one of the organizers of the annual LCSC Native American Awareness Week and a co-adviser for the Native American Club and OELA (Organización de Estudiantes Latino Americanos).  Emeritus status will be conferred on three retiring faculty members.  Recipients of the Gertrude Mellen Dick Award, the President’s Award, and the Provost’s Award will be acknowledged during the ceremony.  The awards are based on scholastic achievement and contributions to the campus and community.

Immediately following the commencement ceremony, the LCSC Alumni Association will host a “Senior Send-Off” celebration at Harris Field for graduates, families, friends, and alumni.

The commencement ceremony will be streamed live on the Internet.  The ceremony will also be broadcast live on Cable ONE Channel 13.
