LCSC instructor writes book about addiction and recovery

LEWISTON, Idaho – Journey to Recovery, a new book by Lewis-Clark State College Social Sciences instructor Robert Hayes, is a composite of individuals who are alive after years of struggling with addiction and attempts at recovery programs. Their stories range from getting sanctioned substance abuse services to a system of treatment where managed care does not interfere with treatment outcomes.

The book is about real people who are on a journey of self-discovery, insight, and forgiveness.  And it shares accounts of what happened to several along their own path of discovery.

Journey to Recovery looks at issues pertinent to the field of helping those with substance use disorders and helps the current professional or lay person reflect on life challenges and how people handle their lives.

Hayes says the book is a must read for everyone in the field of helping addicts and their family members.  “I have watched for 25 years the evolution of our profession go from one extreme to the next,” said Hayes.  “I just wanted to recount my own professional and personal experiences.”

Robert Hayes is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor who teaches addiction studies courses at LCSC.  He is also a consultant to the State of Idaho Department of Health & Welfare in Lewiston, Idaho.

Journey to Recovery is published by Strategic Books Publishing and Rights Co.
