LEWISTON, Idaho – The LC Service Corps and MLK Day Planning Committee are once again inviting community members to participate in “A Day On, Not a Day Off” activities on Martin Luther King Jr. Idaho Human Rights Day, Monday, January 19.
Volunteers can sign up at the LCSC Student Union Building at 10 a.m. to be assigned to sites around the valley. Those sites include:
- Idaho Foodbank
- Idaho State Veterans Home
- Boys and Girls Club in Lewiston
- St. Vincent de Paul in Lewiston and Clarkston.
- Lewiston City Library
- Homes of Hope
LCSC student-athletes will be among those volunteering on MLK Day, including members of the volleyball, basketball, baseball, tennis, and golf teams.
At 6 p.m., local musicians will perform at the LCSC SUB Solarium, followed by a candlelight walk to the Williams Conference Center, where Dan Prinzing of the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights will offer a presentation on human rights from a global, national, and local perspective. The Center is named after Bill Wassmuth, a former Catholic priest who died in 2002. Wassmuth led the fight against the Aryan Nations in north Idaho and founded the Northwest Coalition Against Malicious Harassment.
