LEWISTON, Idaho – It’s time to rock and roll at LCSC Center for Arts & History (CAH). The Center’s Rock n’ Roll Retrospective exhibit opens on Friday, January 30, in conjunction with the 3rd Annual LCSC Faculty/Staff Art Exhibit. Rock n’ Roll Retrospective will be featured in the downstairs galleries, while the Faculty/Staff Exhibit will be in the upstairs galleries.
The opening reception for the exhibits is scheduled for 5 p.m. on the 30th, followed by a panel discussion at 6:30 with musicians Tom Williams, Bill Blair, Marty Lukenbill, Paul Speer, and others. A Rock n’ Roll Retrospective concert begins at 7:30 p.m., featuring Paul Speer of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Lewiston. Speer is a Grammy nominated guitarist, composer, and record producer who also played a significant role in many of the bands featured in the exhibit, including Stone Garden. He has released several solo albums, music video albums, and collaborations with other artists such as pianist David Lanz, drummer Scott Rockenfield of Queensrÿche, Paul Lawler, and vocalist Satine Orient.
The interactive Rock n’ Roll Retrospective exhibit offers a retrospective of rock and roll bands in the Lewis-Clark Valley from the 1950's through the 1970's and features memorabilia from significant local bands, stories about local dance clubs such as Casey's and the Bantam Hut, as well as the development of rock on local radio stations with the advent of radio shows such as Night Train on KRLC.
Programming for the Rock n’ Roll Retrospective exhibit includes Friday and Saturday night mini-concerts by current local bands and musicians (TBA), as well as a presentation at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, by Dr. Amy Canfield, LCSC Associate Professor of History, titled “If You’re Looking for Trouble, You Came to the Right Place: Elvis, Rock, and Teenage Rebellion.”
