Ron Smith named interim VP for finance and administration

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College has appointed Ron Smith as its interim vice president for finance and administration. Smith, who comes to LCSC after serving as the University of Idaho’s vice president for finance and administration from 2011-2015, begins his post on Oct. 5.

“We’re thrilled to announce Ron Smith as interim vice president for finance and administration,” LCSC President J. Anthony Fernandez said. “He’s a proven leader in higher education and we’re very fortunate to have this opportunity to work with him again.”

Smith, a native of Bozeman, Mont., is no stranger to LCSC as he was the college’s vice president of administrative services from 2004-2006.

His career in higher education includes a stint as vice president for finance and business affairs at Seattle University. He also served in several capacities at the University of Idaho for eight years in the late 1980s and early 1990s. From the mid-'90s to early 2000s, he served as vice president for finance at Berea College in Kentucky, and as assistant vice president and controller for the University of Arizona.

Smith will take the place of current LCSC Vice President for Finance and Administration Chet Herbst, recently appointed as chief financial officer of the Idaho State Board of Education, beginning Oct. 5. Herbst has served LCSC since 2001 and as a vice president since 2006.
