"Primal Forces Fire" and "The Symposium" artwork

Two new exhibits opening at Center for Arts & History in January

LEWISTON, Idaho – Two exhibitions are scheduled to open at Lewis-Clark State College’s Center for Arts & History in January. An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, for both will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Center.

“Primal Forces: Fire,” curated by Studio Art Quilt Associates, is the third and final component in its elemental series. Previous exhibitions included “Primal Forces: Earth” and “Primal Forces: Wind.” Visitors are invited to experience the heat of creativity as talented artists use vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and innovative techniques to capture the essence of fire.

Connor Kelly’s “The Symposium” presents a collection of hand-crafted wooden vessels inspired by the social and intellectual gatherings of Ancient Greece. Drawing from historical pottery forms, Kelly reimagines these objects using sustainably sourced regional timber. Each piece is carved from a single block of wood, with handles formed directly from the vessel itself, highlighting both craftsmanship and material transformation.

“Together, these exhibitions offer visitors the opportunity to experience two distinct approaches to contemporary art – one rooted in fiber, the other in sculptural wood – on view concurrently at the LC State Center for Arts & History,” said Kristi Brown, director of the Center.

The exhibitions will be on display through March 28.

The Center for Arts & History gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Learn more at www.lcsc.edu/cah.
