About

The chemistry program prepares students for industrial or government laboratory work, or graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry.

The program offers two emphasis options:

  • Chemistry: Provides a strong foundation for those wanting to enter the professional health fields, especially pre-professional programs such as pre-medical, pre-dental, pharmacy and medical technology.
  • Geochemistry: Teaches the fundamentals of earth sciences, built on an analytical chemistry foundation through deductive reasoning and three-dimensional visualization. Students graduating with this major are prepared for careers in the geo-technical industry as well as continuing their education in a graduate program in the environmental earth sciences.

“LC State's chemistry program and research department is a great place to be! Majoring in Chemistry allowed me to work with an amazing, close-knit group of classmates and professors to learn important skills and explore my interests. The projects and research opportunities prepared me to be competitive at the national level after graduating. As I continue my work in chemistry and environmental science, I am thankful for my undergraduate experience in writing proposals, conducting analytical chemical analyses, public speaking, and so much more.” — Grace Tiegs, ’26
