Region II SBDC at LCSC sets September workshops

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Region II Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Lewis-Clark State College will hold six workshops in September covering topics that include QuickBooks, basic accounting and record keeping, increasing sales through web sites, and using social and local online marketing.

Pre-registration is required for the workshops and is available online at www.lcsc.edu/sbdc, by emailing [email protected], or calling 208-792-2465. Each workshop has an enrollment fee and all six will be held at the SBDC offices, located at 406 Main St. in Lewiston.

The first offering “Improve Your Website to Increase Sales” will be held Sept. 5 at 5:30-8 p.m. This hands-on workshop will help participants connect with customers through content and ideas. It will also help those who work with a web developer to make their website more valuable to customers and provide calls to action. The instructor is Barbara Leachman and the enrollment fee is $20.

“Use Social and Local Online Marketing for SEO” will be covered on Sept. 12 and 5:30-8 p.m. The workshop focuses on search engine options and provides free and low-cost methods to get search engines to find a participant’s business and also to analyze the search engine results. This workshop will also be taught by Leachman and has a $20 enrollment fee.

A workshop on “Basic Accounting and Record Keeping” is set for Sept. 19 at 5:30-8 p.m. and has a $20 enrollment fee. The workshop, taught by Leachman, covers records, accounting, information for decision making, cash, taxes, credit, raising capital, and making deals.

The final three workshops cover QuickBooks. The first two workshops are part of a two-part series. “QuickBooks Basics Part 1” is Sept. 21 at 5:30-8 p.m., and “QuickBooks Basics Part 2” is Sept. 28, also at 5:30-8 p.m. The two workshops are taught by Judy Schumacher and each has a fee of $45. The workshops will be held in a computer lab and will cover all the basics, from learning how to create a company file from scratch to how to create financial reports. The workshops feature several hands-on exercises and each participant will receive a DVD copy of the lab manual to use as reference.

The final workshop is “QuickBooks Reports.” It will be held on Sept. 26 at 5:30-7:30 p.m. This class will teach how to create and use the various types of QuickBooks reports and graphs. There will be instruction on how to customize reports by modifying filers or moving or adding columns. Tips and troubleshooting also will be covered. Su Brown, CPA, will be the instructor, and the enrollment fee is $30.
