LC State sets events for annual Family Weekend on April 21-24

LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College will hold its annual Family Weekend on April 21-24 with a variety of events for LC State students, their families and the general public.

Pre-ordered Family Weekend T-shirts, designed by LC State student Jazmyn Roy, can be picked up at the LC State Alumni tent located north of the Administration Building on the LC State campus on April 22 at 1-5 p.m. and again on April 23 at 10 a.m.-noon

All events are free to attend.

Family Weekend kicks off April 21 with Trivia Night at 6 p.m. at the LC State Student Union Building/Center for Student Leadership or on Zoom.

Art Under the Elms will be April 22-24 and is organized by the LC State Center for Arts & History and sponsored in part by the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Art Under the Elms will include an artisan marketplace, panel discussion, exhibits, theater, arts workshops and demonstrations, cultural presentations, award-winning music and dance performances, the premiere of Lewiston’s Art Battle, readings by acclaimed writers, and programming honoring the Nez Perce Tribe.

Below is a list of events that are currently part of Family Weekend. Local and regional bands will be added to the list of Friday and Saturday night performances soon. Check the Art Under the Elms website for the latest schedule and changes.

THURSDAY, APRIL 21

12-4 p.m. – Student Art Exhibition, Center for Arts & History, 415 Main St. View artwork created by students at LC State and K-12 students in the LC Valley

6 p.m. – Trivia Night; SUB and Zoom. Join the Office of Student Involvement in the SUB or over Zoom for a special edition of Thursday Night Trivia. There will be six rounds of brain-busting trivia. Prizes await the top three players. Zoom Meeting ID: 963 4483 0984; Passcode: trivia (lowercase). Participants will need access to Zoom and Kahoot (app or website) to play.

FRIDAY, APRIL 22

10a.m.-noon – Panel discussion, “Missing Sisters: Nez Perce Women and the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women Movement, Williams Conference Center. Sponsored by the LC State Native American Club, Center for Teaching & Learning, and Humanities Division. Join panelists Lucii Simpson, Paulette Smith, and Renee Holt with moderator Julian Ankney. There will be an opening greeting from LC State alumni Channa Henry and Michael Wasson.

Art Under the Elms, noon-7 p.m., LC State campus

  • Artisan Marketplace – Purchase handmade goods including art, crafts, food, home goods, jewelry, photography, sculpture, and more.
  • Emerging Artist Program – Discover emerging art talent in this shared tent on the Artisan Green.
  • Food Court; Near SUB – Enjoy a variety of foods from area vendors.
  • No More Stolen Relatives, MMIW Exhibit; Fountain Area – Organized by Nez Perce Tourism, Nez Perce Traditions, and sponsored by the LC State Center for Arts & History and the Idaho Commission on the Arts, this is a selection of artwork on display dedicated to honoring missing loved ones and the MMIW Movement.
  • CAVE, an interactive art installation by Oceana Rain Fields – Sponsored by LC State Center for Arts & History.
  • Mini Mosaics, a hands-on art activity with Tirazheh Eslami; Main Area. Sponsored by the Center for Arts & History. Show off your artistic talents and contribute to a public art project on campus.
  • Noon, SUB  Amphitheater – Nimiipuu Opening Ceremony. To honor the original inhabitants of this land, walk in solidarity with Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) to perpetuate the importance of their continued contributions in our community.
  • 1-4 p.m.: Literature Through the Ages – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Mad Hatter Tea Party and Red Queen’s Throne Room, Immersion Theatre. Presented by LC State Theatre Department and sponsored in part by Mad Hatter Tea Shop and Skalicky’s Sweet Sensations. Join student actors in this immersive theatre experience inspired by the popular novel by Lewis Carroll. Guests are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite literary character. The first 15 costumed participants will receive a take-home arts activity.
  • Music performances at SUB Amphitheater: 2-3 p.m. – The Eclectrix. Traditional old-timey music on mandolin, guitar, banjo, and fiddle. 3:45-4:45 p.m. – Yellow Dog Flats. Blues and Americana band. 5:30-7 p.m. – Benjamin Hunter. Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, socialpreneur, and educator, Hunter explores the intersections of music and art, community, policy, and culture.
  • 7:30 p.m.. Silverthorne Theatre – LC State Spring Musical: “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. Presented by the LC State Humanities Division. A musical comedy about relationships and the dating game.

SATURDAY, APRIL 23

2 p.m., Silverthorne Theatre – Saturday Comedy Show, “Bone Dry Comedy.” Sponsored by the Warrior Entertainment Board for LC State students and their families. Free admission and is rated PG-13.

  • Music at SUB Amphitheater: 11 a.m. – Brad Keeler. Multi-instrumentalist, interpreter of vintage music, and singer-songwriter-composer. 2:30-3:30 p.m. Performing original songs from “Trout Takes,” a timeless approach to American folk, blues, and country.6-7:30 p.m. – Olivia Awbrey. Story-drive art rock from the Pacific Northwest.
  • 12:30 p.m. – Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) Cultural Performance; SUB Amphitheater. Presented by Nez Perce Tourism and Nez Perce Traditions Gift Shop. Dancers, drumming, and singing with engagement opportunities.
  • 1-4 p.m.: Literature Through the Ages -- Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Mad Hatter Tea Party and Red Queen’s Throne Room, Immersion Theatre. Presented by LC State Theatre Department and sponsored in part by Mad Hatter Tea Shop and Skalicky’s Sweet Sensations. Join student actors in this immersive theatre experience inspired by the popular novel by Lewis Carroll. Guests are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite literary character.   • 4-6 p.m., SUB Amphitheater: Art Battle. In partnership with Beautiful Downtown Lewiston, local artists compete in a live painting competition as audience members watch the spectacle and vote on winning works. This is the premiere of a new event series in Lewiston. The top two winners will advance to the Lewiston finals at ArtWalk 2022.
  • 7:30 p.m.. Silverthorne Theatre – LC State Spring Musical: “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. Presented by the LC State Humanities Division. A musical comedy about relationships and the dating game.

Readings by: CMarie Fuhrman, Current Writer-in-Residence, Idaho Commission on the Arts; Julian Ankney, poet and LC State Alumna; and LC State creative nonfiction students: Max Galeano, Diana Higgins, Courtney Morgan, Carlee Smith, and Tiara Yount
  • 1-4 p.m.: Literature Through the Ages -- Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Mad Hatter Tea Party and Red Queen’s Throne Room, Immersion Theatre.
