LEWISTON, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State College has partnered with the Harry L. Bettis Foundation to establish need-based scholarships for students from rural communities throughout Idaho, school officials announced on Monday.
The Harry Bettis Scholarship Program, the second-largest single scholarship in LC State’s history, will help meet 100% of demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA. The scholarship is intended for students with “a material and meaningful connection to a rural community in Idaho,” according to the Bettis Foundation.
“This scholarship will change lives at LC State,” LC State Foundation Executive Director Jennie K. Jones Hall said. “We proudly serve a high number of first-generation college students, and for many of them, a scholarship like this is the difference between enrolling and staying home. Already, 107 students are receiving support this fall because of Harry's generosity, and that's only the beginning.”
To award these scholarships, the Bettis Foundation has established the Harry L. Bettis Scholarship Fund at LC State.
Bettis, a fourth-generation Idahoan, was a banker, philanthropist, outdoorsman, and life-long rancher. The Bettis Foundation describes him as a champion of higher education who cared about access to opportunity – in particular, providing access to students in rural communities to help achieve their educational and professional goals.
Qualified students can apply for fall 2027 scholarships beginning Dec. 1. More information about the scholarship and Bettis’ legacy can be found at www.lcsc.edu/giving/harry-bettis-scholarship-program.
