The HESI Health Professions Admission Assessment (HP HESI A²) Exam is an admission requirement for all applicants to the A.S. Radiographic Science program. The HP HESI A² exam consists of seven different sections covering the subject areas of reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar, basic math, chemistry, biology, and anatomy & physiology.

Follow these instructions for creating your account

  1. Login to Evolve and register for the "Health Professions Admission Assessment V1".
  2. Pay the exam fee online through the Evolve site. (Currently $54)
    • Your Payment ID for Health Prof. Admission Assessment is 26901 (1st time test taker)
      • If you have been told to retake the test (V2 version) use Payment ID: 27435
    • Payment ID number is only valid for one test.

REMEMBER: Exam and proctoring fees are both NON-REFUNDABLE. Elsevier exam payments are NON-REFUNDABLE and are valid until you take your test OR the current testing window closes, whichever comes first.

The exam is available year-round from the Lewis-Clark State College Testing Center in Lewiston, ID. Testers may only test once during an application cycle. Students may have up to 5 hours to complete the exam, although most students complete it in under 3 hours. Contact the LC State Testing Center to schedule a test date. If you need to request special testing accommodations, please contact the testing center at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline to allow sufficient time for scheduling.

Pay a $15 NON-REFUNDABLE proctor fee at the Cashier Window in the Administration building. If using a credit or debit card, you can pay online at the LC State Testing Center website.

Bring both of your payment receipts (Evolve and proctor fee), current valid government-issued picture ID, and Evolve user ID and password to the Testing Center when you arrive for your test.

How to Register (Distance Testing)

For students who wish to take the HESI A² at a distance testing location, please follow the Distance Testing instructions above. There is a 4-hour time limit on the HESI A² at Prometric centers (most students complete it in under 3 hours.) Total fees for distance testing should be approximately $105 and Prometric will collect this. Dates and times for testing may be limited so please plan accordingly.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Reading Comprehension (50 items): Provides scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension, including identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences, etc. Recommended Time: 60 minutes

Vocabulary & General Knowledge (50 items): Tests knowledge of basic vocabulary often used in healthcare fields. Recommended Time: 50 minutes

Grammar (50 items): Assesses knowledge of basic grammar, including: parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, and commonly occurring grammatical errors. Recommended Time: 50 minutes

MATH

Basic Math Skills (50 items): Focuses on math skills needed for healthcare fields including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures, and general math facts. Recommended Time: 50 minutes

SCIENCE

Chemistry (25 items): Tests items that cover matter, chemical equations and reactions, the periodic table, atomic structure, nuclear chemistry, and chemical bonding. Recommended Time: 25 minutes

Biology (25 items): Covers biology basics, water, biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis. Recommended Time: 25 minutes

Anatomy & Physiology (25 items): Tests general terminology and anatomical structures and systems. Recommended Time: 25 minutes

The “HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review, 5th Edition” (Elsevier - ISBN 9780323582261) is a recommended study guide and is available for purchase at evolve.elsevier.com. There are copies available to check-out at the LCSC Library. (The guide includes a Physics section, however we will not be testing on it.)

You are only permitted to test one time per application cycle. Be sure you are ready to test. 

Upon completion of the test, your score report will be uploaded to your personal evolve account for you to access. Evolve will submit your score electronically to the NHS office. Distance testing results take approx. 72 hrs to be received by LCSC and your application will not be processed until this score is received. Scores are valid for 2 years.  Expiration may vary if testing for other institutions. Test proctors are not permitted to interpret or advise applicants regarding HESI A² results.
