About the Program
Electrical Apprenticeship is a 4-year program. New courses start each fall and run a full academic year (September to May).
Class Options
- Hybrid: Course content is delivered online and in-class with lab access. Class attendance is required one evening per week.
- Online: 100% of the course material is delivered over the Internet via an instructor-led course. This does require a motivated individual to dedicate time and stay current with the materials
Entrance Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Work under the constant supervision of a licensed Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician

- Work under the constant supervision of a licensed Plumbing Journeyman
Millwrights perform varied functions in the manufacturing environment. Production depends on the Millwrights' abilities identify and diagnose potential and immediate problems. Perform maintenance; repair or replace mechanisms; and perform a multitude of other duties. A Millwright who has both knowledge and skill enhances safety, production and industry reputation.

The objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive perspective of the skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of a Protective Signal Installer. Protective Signal Installers, as a vocation, perform varied skill and knowledge-based functions in multiple environments. The safety of people, and of facilities, depends on the Protective Signal Installer’s abilities to correctly install and maintain multiple system types, and diagnose potential and immediate problems. A Protective Signal Installer who has both knowledge and skill enhances both safety and the industry’s reputation.
Q: What is an apprenticeship?
A: Apprenticeships are an opportunity for people to gain hands-on training, complete theory coursework, all while earning a paycheck. Apprentices work for an employer of their choosing, who pays their wages and provides the on-the-job training. In Idaho, apprentices are required to have a minimum of 2,000 on-the-job training hours and a minimum of 144 hours of related instruction per year. After completing four (4) years of training, the apprentice can sit for the Idaho Journeyman’s exam.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Students planning to enroll in either Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC course will need to pay the registration fee of $1,445 per year. There are additional fees associated with these courses.
Q: What additional course fees can I expect?
A: Additional fees for the apprentice courses include but are not limited to textbooks, course supplies, and testing fees.
Q: Do I need to have a job before I can enroll in an apprentice course?
A: No, students are not required to be working as an apprentice before enrolling in our course. Students are strongly encouraged to obtain employment in their field while enrolled in the program though.
Q: How to I obtain my Apprentice License?
A: Apply for Apprentice License by completing your application through the regulatory agency, Idaho Division of Building Safety (DBS). For questions about these forms contact DBS directly at 800-955-3044.

Q: Does this program meet the requirements for the Journeyman’s examination?
A: Yes. After successful completion of the 4-year program and the required hours of on-the-job training, the Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing apprentice may take the journeyman examination.
