Additional Resources and Information
Benefits
- Provides student with the opportunity to experience the rigor and intellectual challenge of college classes while earning transferable college credit.
- Students will learn directly from LC State faculty and gain a broader experience of what it means to be a college student.
Challenges
- While academically qualified, students may not be ready socially or emotionally for college content. College classes are designed for adult learners and contemporary issues of our society will be actively discussed.
- Students will establish a permanent college transcript upon registering and it will stay with them through their entire college career. If students perform poorly, it may jeopardize future college plans and have financial aid repercussions.
Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used by LC State. It allows the college to manage digital learning and faculty to create and present online learning materials and assess student learning. LC State uses a unique version of Canvas specifically for IDJC (Juvenile Corrections Canvas System).
Released Students: Students who are released from an IDJC facility can still access their Canvas courses.
For assistance logging in, resetting passwords, or troubleshooting, email elearning@lcsc.edu or call 208-792-2239.
For information on grades and grading, visit the Office of Registrar & Records.
Incomplete Grades: The grade of “I” (Incomplete) indicates that work is satisfactory, but because of extenuating circumstances, has not been completed by the end of the term. The grade is given at the discretion of the instructor, per student request, and only when the student has made substantial progress (at least 80% of coursework completed) toward completion of the class.
For all “I” grades, the date of completion may be no later than one subsequent semester. The exact date of completion will be specified by the instructor. On that date, the Incomplete will expire to an “F” if no grade is assigned by the instructor. If the Incomplete is received during a Spring or Fall session, the student has one full semester following that session in which to complete the course (Summer sessions do not count as a full semester).
General education courses provide universal skills and knowledge contributing to success in the instructional programs and in employment. They also provide means for discovery of new interests and perspectives. The General Education courses provide a broad understanding of the world in which students will live and work.
For additional information and a list of the LC State core requirements, review the Lewis-Clark State College General Education Requirements in the catalog or the General Education webpage.
For more information on Idaho General Education Matriculation (GEM) requirements and course offerings throughout the state, visit the state’s CourseTransfer site.
The college functions to promote the development of all students. Therefore, all work submitted by a student must represent his/her own ideas, concepts, and current understanding. Academic dishonesty in any form is unacceptable. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating and plagiarism.
From the Lewis-Clark State College Student Code of Conduct:
- Cheating – intentionally using or attempting to use unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise. The term “academic exercise” includes all forms of work submitted for credit hours.
- Fabrication – intentional and/or unauthorized falsification or invention of any information or the source of any information in an academic exercise.
- Collusion facilitating academic dishonesty – intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another to commit an act of academic dishonesty.
- Plagiarism – the deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas or words or statement of another person as one’s own without acknowledgment.
Acts of academic dishonesty are subject to appropriate discipline through the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of education records and is enforced by the Family Policy Compliance Office of the U.S. Department of Education (FPCO). Essentially, the act states that 1) "students" must be permitted to inspect their own "education records" and 2) "school officials" may not disclose personally identifiable information about a student without written permission from the student.

Students are not allowed to communicate directly with LC State faculty or staff via phone/email/Canvas.
IDJC staff will send communication on behalf of the students to Early College Programs and/or the appropriate instructor(s) as needed.
Instructors can submit comments on assignments within Canvas.
Submitted assignments must be graded within two weeks for 16-week courses and within one week for 8-week courses.
IDJC students are allowed to receive Incomplete (“I”) grades. The grade is given at the discretion of the instructor, per student request (via IDJC or Early College Programs staff), and only when the student has made substantial progress (at least 80% of coursework completed) toward completion of the class.
The date of completion may be no later than one subsequent semester. The exact date of completion will be specified by the instructor.
