First Year Students

Apply to LC State

1) Explore programs and decide what you'd like to study.
Only classes taken in pursuit of an approved program can be certified for benefits!

2) Apply to LC State through the Office of Admissions.

Apply for GI Bill®

3) Apply to get your GI Bill® benefits started.

The VA will process you application within 30 days and will send you a Certificate of Eligibility in the Mail. You will need to send this to Veterans' Services for your student file. It will give me the information to process your benefits through the school.

Veterans request your Joint Service Transcript

4) Request your Joint Service Transcript (Navy, Army, Marines and Coast Guard) to LC State. Air Force will need to request their Air Force Transcript to LC State.

This will be sent to the Office of the Registrar. The Registrar will go through your Transcript after your first semester and see what Military training and schooling can be applied as College Credit.

FAFSA

5) Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

You are not required to submit a FAFSA. If you would like to see if you are eligible for any Federal Grants (which don't count against you GI Bill® benefits, nor do they have to be paid back) or any Loans (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) you will need to complete the FAFSA.

Send Enrollment Certification Form

6) Send Enrollment Certification Form to the Coordinator of Veterans' Services.

This should be done when you are registered for classes. When we get this we will go over your class schedule and make sure your classes align with your degree plan and certify your semester through the VA.

All GI Bill® recipients need to have paid in full by the 5th day of classes (First Friday if classes start on a Monday or the Monday following if classes start on Tuesday) or have a payment plan set up through Student Accounts.
