This change applies only to users who receive push notifications on their cell phones. YubiKeys will continue to function as usual without any impact.

To align with Microsoft’s updated security requirements, we are making a change to how Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) works for your LC State account.

What’s changing?
When you sign in, you’ll now see a “Verification Required” screen. This means you’ll be redirected to Duo to complete your MFA check.

Instead of tapping Approve on your phone, you’ll now need to enter a code that is displayed on your computer or device screen into the Duo app.

This extra step is required because Microsoft is retiring older MFA policies and now requires stronger, phishing-resistant authentication.

How this protects you:
This Verified Push method prevents attackers from sending fake push notifications you might accidentally approve — adding a powerful layer of security to your account.

What you need to do:

  • Watch for the new Verification Required screen — this is expected (shown in Figure 1).

  • Follow the prompt to enter the code into Duo on your phone (shown in Figure 2).

  • Your username and password remain the same.

If you have any questions or run into issues, please contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@lcsc.edu or 208-792-2231.

Thank you for your continued help in keeping LC State secure!
